
Olivo can't keep Bears from topping AquaSox

EVERETT, WASH. - Seattle Mariner catcher Miguel Olivo started for the Everett AquaSox in a 5-1 loss to the Yakima Bears in Everett Tuesday night. With a Salem-Keizer win Tuesday, the AquaSox (15-10) would fall into a first-place tie with the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes in the West Division of the Northwest League.
Olivo, with the Sox on a medical rehabilitation assignment, manned the plate for six innings and went 0 for 2. He is scheduled to play 9 innings for Everett Wednesday night as well.
Bears starting pitcher Garrett Mock kept Everett batters guessing for seven innings, allowing one run -unearned- and a scant five hits. He walked no one and struck out six en route to his first victory of the year.
Brent Johnson drove in the Sox' lone run and went 2 for 4.
Brandon Burgess hit a solo shot out of the ballpark in the fourth inning for Yakima. It was his second home run of the season.
Everett starter Shawn Nottingham suffered his first loss of the season, bringing his record to 3-1. He went six innings, allowing three runs, while walking one and striking out just one.
Yakima and Everett play game two of the series on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The first 1,000 kids 12 and under to the game will receive a Rafael Soriano photo baseball courtesy of Sound Transit and NorthSound 1380.
