
Oklahoma Cavalry Supporting Oktoberfest And Spirit Of Survival Marathon This Weekend

LAWTON, OKLA.-- This Saturday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. the Oklahoma Cavalry professional CBA basketball team will be joining in on the Oktoberfest festivities at the Ft. Sill Polo Field, and Sunday the team will also be taking part in the Spirit of Survival Marathon at Medicine Park, Okla.
Everyone is invited to come out and meet President/General Manager Otis Birdsong, Cavs Dance Team members and Oklahoma Cavalry staff from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Oktoberfest.
A booth will be set up with schedules and season ticket information, and four-time NBA All-Star Otis Birdsong will sign autographs from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. All in attendance will also have the opportunity to enjoy the Cavs Dance Team's first performance.
Director of Morale, Welfare and Recreation Brenda Spencer-Ragland said she is pleased the Oklahoma Cavalry will be participating in this year's Oktoberfest and is thankful for the team helping out with the sports arena at the festival.
"We are very excited to have the Oklahoma Cavs come on line as both sponsors and partners for not only the Oktoberfest, but so many other great activities that will benefit our Soldiers, Families and Lawton-Fort Sill community," said Ragland. "Most importantly, I am extremely thankful for their generous donation of complimentary tickets to their home games for our Wounded Warriors."
Oktoberfest is free and open to the public. Activities are planned from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Oct. 13 with a three-mile Volksmarch and one-mile Children's Volksmarch kicking off the festival at 8 a.m. Other events during the day include amusement rides, a magic show, live entertainment and a children's area with games. Various food vendors, German food and a beer and wine garden will also be available.
Also on the agenda this weekend, President/General Manager Otis Birdsong will be handing out ribbons to the Spirit of Survival Super Kid's Marathon runners Sunday as they cross the finish line.
This is the Second Annual Spirit of Survival Marathon and all proceeds from the event will help fund three new cancer centers in Southwest Oklahoma in Lawton, Altus and Duncan. The marathon will feature five certified USATF sanctioned races through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge along with two new additional events this year, the Super Kid's Marathon and 5K Spirit Walk and Family Fun Run.
