Today's Game: The Oklahoma City Comets continue their final series of the regular season against the El Paso Chihuahuas at 1:05 p.m. CT at Southwest University Park looking to even the series...The Comets have lost back-to-back games for the first time since Aug. 25-26 against El Paso and have not lost three straight games since Aug. 19-21 in Sugar Land...The Comets' magic number to win the Pacific Coast League second half is down to one, and OKC can clinch the title with a win today or with a loss by Sugar Land tonight

Last Game: The Oklahoma City Comets began their final regular season road trip with an 11-5 loss to the El Paso Chihuahuas Tuesday night at Southwest University Park. El Paso tallied a four-run second inning, scoring the latter three runs on a bases-clearing double with two outs and two strikes by Mason McCoy. Chris Newell homered out to center field in the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 4-1. The Chihuahuas scored seven runs between the fifth through seventh innings, including a five-run barrage in the sixth inning, to take an 11-1 advantage. The Comets scored four runs in the ninth inning with a two-run double by Ryan Ward followed by a two-run blast by Ryan Fitzgerald.

Today's Probable Pitcher: Jackson Ferris (3-5) looks to continue his recent roll...Last Wednesday vs. Sugar Land, Ferris pitched the final 6.0 innings during an 8-6 win to earn his first professional save, allowing one run, two hits and two walks with seven strikeouts. He retired a stretch of 11 straight batters from the fourth through seventh innings...Over his last five games, Ferris has allowed four runs in 28.1 innings, with 21 hits, 10 walks and 35 strikeouts. He has not allowed more than one run in any outing and has at least eight strikeouts in three of the five games...Among PCL leaders, Ferris ranks third in strikeouts (106) and tied for eighth in starts. Since the start of July, Ferris leads the PCL with 71 strikeouts while ranking second in WHIP (1.29) and third in ERA (3.81), innings (59.0) and BAA (.241)...He was traded to the Dodgers from the Chicago Cubs with OF Zyhir Hope in exchange for IF Michael Busch and RHP Yency Almonte Jan. 11, 2024.

The Comets make their first and only trip to Southwest University Park this season for their third and final series against El Paso...Oklahoma City has won both second half series at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark...Through the first 12 games of the season series, Hyeseong Kim racked up 17 hits and batted .447 to lead the way at the plate with five RBI. Alek Thomas homered three times in his first five games vs. El Paso...OKC most recently took four of seven games Aug. 25-30, winning each of the final three games by one run to kick-start a 14-game winning streak. That three-game stretch included two walk-off victories...The Comets won four of five games July 7-12, including each of the final four games, scoring 33 runs...OKC won last year's season series, 10-8, and OKC has only lost two season series since the Chihuahuas joined the PCL in 2014, last in 2022...The Comets last played in El Paso Aug. 5-10, 2025, collecting a series split as OKC won the final three games.

The Edge of Glory: The Comets' magic number to win the PCL second half title is one due to Sugar Land's loss to Las Vegas Tuesday night. Oklahoma City can clinch with a victory today or with a loss by Sugar Land tonight. The Comets lead Sugar Land and Las Vegas by 4.0 games in the second half standings with five games remaining and OKC owns the tiebreaker against both teams...The winner of the PCL second half will secure a spot in the PCL Championship Series to take on first half champion Las Vegas in a best-of-three series at Las Vegas Ballpark Sept. 22-24...OKC has advanced to the postseason four times previously during the team's affiliation with the Los Angeles Dodgers since 2015 and made the league championship series in 2016 and 2023. The team won the PCL first half title in 2023 and went on to win OKC's first PCL championship during the Bricktown era...The Comets entered their Aug. 28 game against El Paso tied for fourth place in the second half standings and 4.0 games behind league-leading Sugar Land. The Comets then won 14 consecutive games to take over first place in the second half standings by 5.0 games before back-to-back losses Sunday and Tuesday...The Los Angeles Dodgers' Double-A (Tulsa), High-A (Great Lakes) and Single-A (Ontario) affiliates all clinched playoffs berths in 2026.

Down the Stretch: The Comets have now lost back-to-back games following a franchise-best 14-game winning streak during the Bricktown era. The stretch was the second-longest winning streak across the Minors in 2026...The team's previous record was 12 consecutive wins set in 2013, and the 14-game winning streak was the longest in the PCL since Round Rock won 14 straight games in 2023...Despite losses in the last two games, OKC has won 15 of the last 18 games and is 17-5 over the last 22 games...Starting July 29, OKC is 32-11 for the best record among all Triple-A teams and the most wins in the Minors during the stretch...The Comets are 6-0-1 over the last seven series...This is the sixth time in 11 seasons OKC has won at least 80 games during the team's affiliation with the Dodgers (since 2015) and fourth time in the last five seasons. OKC has 85 wins this season, reaching the milestone for the third time since 1998 and first time since recording a Bricktown-era record 90 victories in 2023 (90-58).

Fitz Blitz: With his two-run homer in the ninth inning last night, Ryan Fitzgerald set a new OKC Bricktown-era single-season record with 165 hits, surpassing Ryan Ward's total of 164 hits last season...Fitzgerald leads all players in the Minors in hits this season and is now up to 99 RBI - third-most in the PCL. He is one RBI away from becoming the third player in the PCL this season with 100 RBI, joining teammate James Tibbs III (101 RBI). Fitzgerald's 255 total bases are second-most in the league, while his 32 doubles are tied for second, his 53 extra-base hits rank fourth and his 89 runs scored are tied for fifth...Fitzgerald matched his career-high mark with his 16th homer of the season, last reached during both the 2021 and 2022 campaigns while with the Boston Red Sox organization...He has hit safely in 17 of his last 20 games, going 26-for-78 (.333) with 12 XBH and 22 RBI.

Hard-Line: Zach Ehrhard went 1-for-4 Tuesday to extend his hitting streak to seven games, tying his season high initially set May 13-23. During the current streak, Ehrhard is 13-for-27 (.481) with six RBI and six runs scored...He has 111 runs scored this season to lead all Triple-A players, and he is two away from matching Ryan Ward's Bricktown-era single-season record of 113 runs set last season...Ehrhard's 148 hits this season are second-most in the PCL. He ranks fourth with 91 walks and fifth with 92 RBI...He is one of three players during the Bricktown era to collect at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases in the same season, joining Nelson Cruz (2008) and Ryan Noda (2022).

The High Road: The Comets' streak of eight straight road wins came to an end with last night's defeat. The road winning streak tied the team's third-longest during the Bricktown era and longest since OKC won eight straight road games April 11-26, 2025...The Comets are now 40-30 on the road this season and have the third-most road victories in the PCL. OKC has recorded at least 40 road wins in four consecutive seasons.

Off Pitch: Last night, the Comets allowed the most runs in a game since giving up 13 runs Aug. 11 vs. Albuquerque. Tuesday's defeat was the team's largest losing margin since falling in that same game, 13-7, against the Isotopes...In the 25 games from Aug. 12- Sept. 8, the Comets owned a 1.84 ERA, allowing four runs or less in 23 of the 25 games. The Comets have now allowed five or more runs in four of the last six games (29 total runs)...Between Aug. 12-Sept. 12, the Comets did not allow an inning of four or more runs. Now in the last two games, they've allowed three such innings. Tuesday marked the third game this season the Comets allowed multiple four-plus run innings in one game and first since June 12 at Charlotte...In OKC's back-to-back losses, the Comets have been outscored, 16-5. This is the first time since July 29-30, 2025 against Salt Lake the Comets lost consecutive games by five or more runs...The Comets have not held a lead in each of the last two games after holding a lead in 39 of the previous 42 games.

Around the Horn: James Tibbs III is the first PCL player to cross the 100 RBI/100 R/100 BB barrier since Greg Brock of Albuquerque in 1982. Tibbs leads all of Triple-A with a Bricktown-era record 108 walks to go along with 101 RBI and 107 runs...Ryan Ward picked up his 399th and 400th career RBI with OKC last night...The Comets have been limited to five hits or less in three consecutive games (14 H) for the second time this season and first time since May 22-24 against Reno (12 H). OKC has not scored in 24 of the last 27 innings, and over the last 23 innings the team has scored five runs while going 11-for-77 (.143).
