OHL Names Performers of the Month

Toronto - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the OHL Performers of the Month for January.

OHL Player of the Month - Wojtek Wolski, Brampton Battalion Wolski was the OHL's top scorer during the month of January, piling up 10 goals and 17 assists for 27 points in 11 games. The 19-year-old Mississauga native was also the Player of the Month in December. He had three four-point games last month and picked up seven points in a 9-4 win over the Erie Otters on January 22. Wolski, who started the year in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, is 0th in the league scoring race with 29 goals and 79 points in 41 games with the Battalion this season. He also scored two goals and was Team East's Player of the Game in the Bell OHL All-Star Classic on February 1.

OHL Rookie of the Month - John Tavares, Oshawa Generals Tavares was named OHL Rookie of the Month for the second straight month after scoring nine goals and 12 points in 11 games last month. He had a five-game goal scoring streak that stretched from January 7 - 20. The 15-year-old Oakville native was the first overall pick in the OHL Priority Selection last May. He leads all OHL rookies with 35 goals and is second with 59 points in 51 games this season.

Defenceman of the Month - Andrew Marshall, Barrie Colts Marshall was the OHL's top scoring defenceman during the month of January with four goals and 14 assists for 18 points in 12 games. He recorded at least one point on 10 occasions and had three three-point games in January. The 19-year-old from Niagara Falls is second in scoring among OHL defencemen with 22 goals and 36 assists for 58 points in 54 games.

Goaltender of the Month - Dan Turple, Kitchener Rangers Turple was named OHL Goaltender of the Month after posting an 8-1-1-0 record, along with a .937 save percentage and 1.79 goals against average in 10 starts last month. He won four straight games to end the month, including a 26-save shutout performance against the Brampton Battalion on January 27.

He also had a 27-save shutout against the first place Peterborough Petes on January 6. Turple improved his season record to 31-11-1-1 with a .921 save percentage and 2.38 goals against average in 44 appearances.
