OHL Draft: Firebirds to Pick 2nd Overall Saturday
April 6, 2018 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Flint Firebirds News Release
The 2018 Ontario Hockey League (OHL) Priority Selection presented by Real Canadian Superstore takes place this Saturday April 7 beginning at 9 a.m. and the Firebirds have the second-overall pick.
For 14 straight years beginning in 1999, the player taken second in the OHL draft went on to play in the NHL. Since 2010, four of the last six players selected second-overall in the OHL Draft became first-round draft picks in the NHL.
The OHL conducts the annual Priority Selection process by way of the Internet to allow eligible players and their families, as well as fans across the league to follow the draft in real time online.
The annual Priority Selection features 300 picks over 15 rounds. For the 11th straight year the OHL Priority Selection Draft Show will showcase the first three rounds through a live video stream online including live pick-by-pick results.
North American players that reside in the province of Ontario, the states of Michigan, Pennsylvania and New York and other designated U.S. states east of the Mississippi River born January 1, 1999 through December 31, 2002 are eligible for selection through a 15 round process.
The order of selection was determined by inverse order of finish during the past OHL regular season schedule of games with non-playoff teams selection ahead of playoff teams.
Fans are encouraged to join the conversation on social media leading up to and throughout the weekend using #OHLDraft.
