OHL Announces Performers of the Month for October

Toronto - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the Performers of the Month for October 2004.
OHL Player of the Month - Corey Perry, London Knights
Perry scored 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 12 games, leading all OHL scorers during the month of October. He helped the Knights to an 11-0-1-0 start that set a new OHL record with a 12-game undefeated streak to start the season. Perry has scored in all 15 of the Knights games this season and enjoyed four multiple-goal games, including his first hat trick of the season on October 8 against the Windsor Spitfires. Perry, who was also named OHL Player of the Month last October, was a first round draft pick of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim. He is the OHL's active career scoring leader with 286 points in 208 games.
OHL Rookie of the Month - Jakub Petruzalek, Ottawa 67's
Petruzalek led the 67's in scoring in October with 10 goals and 11 assists for 21 points in 14 games. The Litvinov, Czech native was named one of the game's stars six times last month. He scored two game-winning goals in October and recorded three points on four di9fferent occasions. Petruzalek, who was drafted by the New York Rangers last June, is leading all OHL rookies with 24 points in 14 games this season.
OHL Defenceman of the Month - Andre Benoit, Kitchener Rangers
Benoit was the OHL's top scoring defenceman in October with five goals and 13 assists for 18 points in 12 games. The 20-year-old native of St. Albert, Ontario recorded points in 10 of 12 games last month, including a four-point effort against the Owen Sound Attack on October 29. He has scored more points than any other active OHL defenceman, racking up 83 goals and 262 points in 298 games in five seasons with the Rangers, who selected Benoit in the first round of the 2000 OHL Priority Selection.
OHL Goaltender of the Month - Ryan MacDonald, London Knights
MacDonald posted a perfect 7-0-0 record, along with a 2.12 goals against average and .934 save percentage in seven starts last month. MacDonald allowed two or fewer goals against in four games, including his first shutout of the season, a 29-save performance against the Windsor Spitfires on October 8. He faced 27 or more shots against in six of seven starts. Last year, the 19-year-old native of Chesley, Ontario combined with teammate Gerald Coleman to set a new OHL record for goals against in a season.
