Offense Wakes Up To Earn Doubleheader Split

There was no hangover for the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in the second game of their doubleheader. They lost the first game in a heartbreaking walk off fashion. To make sure they didn't feel the effects of that loss, the offense came out swinging slugged their way to a split with Hudson Valley by a final of 10-6.Luis DeJesus was able to match Jake Sisco's performance from game 1 and threw a dominating 5 innings. He left the ballgame with a 10-3 lead. He went 5 innings and scattered 5 hits while allowing 3 runs, but only 1 was earned. He walked one and struck out 5. Jack Wagoner and Nick Pasquale combined to finish out the game as DeJesus picked up his third win of the season.

The offense was a factor from top to bottom in game 2. They batted around the order in the top of the 3rd inning. The inning was highlighted by Jairo Kelly's 2 run double. Joe Sever, Richard Stock, and Mitch Nilsson all contributed singles in the inning. And Charlie Valerio added his 6th double of the season as well. They put the game out of reach with a 3 run 4th inning as well. Aaron Siliga lead off with a ground rule double to center field. Joe Wendle followed with a double to plate Siliga. Wedle would then score on a bases loaded walk to Stock.

The Scrappers return home to Eastwood Field on Tuesday night to take on the State College Spikes. First pitch is at 7:05. Call the Scrappers box office at 330-505-0000 to get your tickets.
