Offense Struggles as T-Yanks Drop Finale, 3-0

TAMPA - The bats remained silent for the Tampa Yankees (11-11, 45-47) as the Charlotte Stone Crabs (9-14, 54-39) salvaged a split of the series with a 3-0 win in the finale on Saturday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

The Stone Crabs held the Yankees scoreless for the final 21 innings of the series. Charlotte won the season-series, 6-2.

LHP Jordan Montgomery surrendered a hit to the first four batters of the game. Andrew Velazquez reached on an infield single and advanced to third as Steven Souza Jr. doubled down the left field line. Both scored as Willy Adames smacked a double to left. A base hit by Mike Marjama placed runners on the corners and Marty Gantt flew a sacrifice fly into right, scoring Adames.

Montgomery (3-4) settled down after the first, retiring 12 of the 16 batters he faced through the fifth. The southpaw allowed three runs on seven hits in five innings, walking one while striking out three.

No. 5 Tampa Bay Rays prospect Brent Honeywell (2-2) pitched the best game of his career. The right-hander completed all nine shutout innings, scattering four hits and striking out nine without allowing a walk.

LHP Dietrich Enns entered in relief for Tampa in the sixth and tossed four scoreless frames. Enns scattered two hits and struck out four without issuing a walk.

Michael O'Neill (2-for-3) led the Yankees with two of the four total hits. Wes Wilson (1-for-3) hit a double and is batting .333 (11-for-33) in home games this season.

Up next, the T-Yanks travel to Brevard County for a three-game series against the Manatees. RHP Vicente Campos (0-3, 11.81) is scheduled to matchup against RHP Jorge Ortega (8-5, 2.16 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. and can be heard live on tybaseball.com
