Reading Express News Release
The Reading Express offense hasn't had any problems scoring points, and their defense hasn't allowed too many of them. So on a night when the defense was solid, but not spectacular, the offense made sure that another W went in the win column. The Express scored the first 23 points of the game, including a 40-yard TD pass from quarterback Tom Stetzer to wide receiver Shawn Foxworth on the team's first play from scrimmage. Kicker Erik Rockhold then added one of his three rouges on the night to stake the team to an 8-0 lead four minutes into the contest. Later in the quarter, running back Perry Taglienti added a two-yard TD run.
In the second quarter, running back Isaiah "Zeke" Grier continued his hot streak by scoring on a six-yard TD run. It was Grier's fourth rushing touchdown in his last three games. He also caught a 15-yard TD pass with one minute left in the game, to complete the Express' scoring for the night. The other scoring for the Express came courtesy of a 25-yard TD grab by Shawn Foxworth and a two-yard grab from wide receiver Ian Cooper.
The defense was not going to be left off the scoreboard, as defensive end Mike Schwebel recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD. It was Schwebel's third turnover in as many games, as he recovered a fumble the previous week against Huntington, and the week before, he intercepted a pass against Canton.
Stetzer finished the game 20-36 for 191 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. Grier rushed for 16 yards on four carries and one touchdown. Foxworth caught eight passes for 103 yards and two scores. Cooper caught ten passes for 72 yards and a score.
The defense, even though they allowed 33 points, which is still very low in the indoor game, gave up these points when the game was well in hand. The defense did its job like it has all season long, and look for it to bring it again next week against Canton.
Express Head Coach Kelly Logan said "I noticed that there were a lot of our fans at this game, and it was great to see our fans out on the road supporting our team, and I really do appreciate you coming out. I hope to see all of our fans at this Saturday's game against our rival, the Canton Legends."
The Express will take on the Legends this Saturday at 7:05 at the Sovereign Center. It is the "White Out Game" as the Express are encouraging all fans to wear white to the game, or you are welcome to purchase it at the game also. It is also college night as any college student that brings their ID to the game will get a $5 ticket to the game. Also, the first 1000 fans will receive a pom pom courtesy of Hair on the Avenue and an inflatable football courtesy of Diamond Credit Union.
The Legends are the only team that the Express has not beaten at the Sovereign Center!!! So we need all of you to come out and help the Express keep their lock on first place!!! See you Saturday!!!
