July 14, 2008 - Intense Football League (Intense)
West Texas Roughnecks News Release
ODESSA, TX. : With the CenTex Barracudas defeating the Alaska Wild, 71-18, back on Saturday, July 12th, Odessa will head to Lake Charles to face the Louisiana Swashbucklers (14-0) in the second round of the â08 IFL playoffs. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. on Monday, July 21, 2008. A spot for the Intense Bowl is what is at stake for this great playoff match-up.
Louisiana has not lost at home in 2 years and they face a Roughnecks squad that they have not seen since May 24th when the Swashbucklers defeated Odessa, 56-37. However, due to scheduling conflicts, Louisiana has had 3 weeks to prep for this game as Odessa has had a week off to rest and get healthy after a 67-33 first round win over the Frisco Thunder back on July 5th. Odessa went 1-6 on the road this season but they will come to Lake Charles on a 3-game winning streak.
"I believe, right now, we are playing our best team football. There is great talent on this team and if our players continue to play key roles, both offensively and defensively, then we will be a very dangerous team come Monday." stated Head Coach Chris Williams.
Louisiana will be defending their 2007 IFL championship and they will turn to QB Alvin Bartie for leadership on offense, who threw 62 touchdown passes during the regular season. Odessa will need another strong performance from QB Dennis Gile, who registered 5 touchdown passes in the playoff win over Frisco. The winner between Odessa and Louisiana will face ether Corpus Christi or CenTex for the 2008 IFL championship. With all things set, this will be an exciting playoff round of the IFL post-season.
