STOCKTON, Calif. - The Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the National Hockey League's Edmonton Oilers, announced the Professional Hockey Player's Association (PHPA) has nominated veteran defenseman Tim O'Connell for the 2007 InterContinental Hotels Group Ironman Award.

The ICHG Ironman Award is presented annually to a Professional PHPA Member playing in the American Hockey League (AHL), and a Member playing in the ECHL, respectively, who has participated in each of his Club's regular season games and has contributed both offensively and defensively throughout the 2006-2007 regular season. Nominations are based upon individual player performance, with primary consideration placed on games played, points, and plus/minus statistics.

O'Connell, 29, was the only Thunder player to appear in all 72 regular season games in 2006-07.

The Grand Forks, North Dakota native recently announced his retirement following the end of the Thunder's 2006-07 season, concluding a seven-year professional career with an ECHL career-high 32 points (10g-22a) and ECHL career-high tying 10 goals this year. O'Connell spent seven seasons with the ECHL's Thunder, Florida EverBlades, Roanoke Express, the American Hockey League's Norfolk Admirals, Rochester Americans and Syracuse Crunch and the United Hockey League's Elmira Jackals and Missouri River Otters, appearing in 499 career games with 211 points (61g-150a) and 811 penalty minutes.

Additionally, O'Connell appeared in 42 Kelly Cup Playoff games in his ECHL career, scoring 16 points (2g-14a) while helping guide Florida to two consecutive Kelly Cup Finals appearances in 2004-05.

A selection committee comprised of PHPA officials will announce the winners at the PHPA Annual Meeting of Player Representatives in June.
