Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week Announced

The Week 14 recipients of the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week awards have been determined following nominations from CHL member clubs. Lubbock left winger Anders Strome has been selected as the Oakley CHL Player of the Week after recording four goals and six points in a pair of Cotton Kings contests this weekend, while Jeff Van Nynatten of the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees garners Oakley Goaltender of the Week honors after posting two quality home ice victories Friday and Saturday.
Strome, acquired via trade earlier this month, registered the first Cotton Kings hat-trick of the season on Saturday night, scoring once in each period while adding an assist in a 6-4 victory at Arizona. The following night he potted his 18th goal of the season along with an assist in a 6-5 loss to the Sundogs. In just half a dozen games with the Cotton Kings the Winnipeg native and 2005 CHL All-Star has five goals and five assists, including four power play scores and a game winning goal.
Rio Grande Valley's Van Nynatten was outstanding in leading the Killer Bees to home wins over both Wichita and Rocky Mountain this weekend. Friday night he stopped 27 of 28 Wichita shots in a 6-1 win, then made another 26 saves the next night in a 5-2 win over Rocky Mountain. The quality weekend outings gave the London, Ontario native his 4th and 5th wins of the season, lowering his goals against average to 3.02 and elevating his save percentage to .904.
