The recipients of the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week awards for Week Six of the CHL season are Bossier-Shreveport forward Scott Sheppard and Laredo netminder Dov Grumet-Morris. Sheppard continued his torrid goal scoring spree with seven goals in three outings last week, including his second hat-trick of the year, while Grumet-Morris made a highly successful debut with Laredo, recording a shutout and two wins in his first action with the Bucks.
Sheppard, now leading the CHL with a total of 18 goals, has found the back of the net in 11 of the first 15 games this season for the Mudbugs, and recorded his third, fourth and fifth multiple-goal outings of the season last week as Bossier-Shreveport posted a record of 1-1-1 in three home games. Sheppard's second hat-trick of the year came November 22nd in a 7-6 shootout loss to Youngstown. Friday evening he had both goals in the Mudbugs 2-1 overtime win over Fort Worth, then added two more goals the following evening in a 5-3 loss to Colorado. Sheppard has been particularly dangerous while on the power play this season, leading the CHL with 10 goals while enjoying the man advantage.
Rookie netminder Grumet-Morris, assigned to Laredo on November 21st by the Bucks' American Hockey League affiliate in San Antonio, quickly impressed his teammates with two quality outings. In his first game with the Bucks he posted a 29-save 4-0 shutout win in Lubbock. Saturday evening he earned his second win in as many starts, holding the Wichita Thunder, the CHL's highest scoring club, to just a pair of goals in a 3-2 overtime victory. A Harvard graduate with a double major in Government and Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations , Grumet-Morris was a 2004-2005 finalist for the Hobey Baker Award. He also holds 13 school records and an additional three ECAC League marks, while his career save percentage of .924 ranks fifth in the NCAA annals.
