Oakley CHL Player & Goaltender of the Week Announced

Published on November 29, 2004 under Central Hockey League (CHL) News Release

Colorado right winger Greg Pankewicz and Corpus Christi netminder Brent Zelenewich have been honored respectively as the recipients of the Oakley CHL Player and Goaltender of the Week for week six of the Central Hockey League season. Pankewicz was dominant offensively for the Eagles, scoring four goals and adding five assists in three outings, while Zelenewich enjoyed a pair fine winning performances for the Southeast Division leading Rayz.

Pankewicz, the CHL's 2003-2004 goals leader with 46, was hindered early this season by injury but is quickly making up for lost time. Pankewicz scored in all three of the Eagles home games this week, and had back-to-back four point outings against Wichita. He potted his seventh goal of the season in a 3-0 win over Odessa November 24th, then racked up eight more points Friday and Saturday as Colorado split a two game series with Wichita. In Friday's 5-4 loss the Thunder, Pankewicz had a goal and three assists, then added two more goals and two assists in Saturday's 6-2 victory. The veteran forward is a strong candidate for Sher-Wood CHL Player of the Month honors for November with 21 points in just seven games.

Zelenewich improved his record this season to 5-3-2 with two quality performances in wins over San Angelo and Laredo. In a 5-2 home win over San Angelo on November 24th, he turned aside 22 of 24 shots, then turned in an outstanding 44-save outing in a 3-2 win at Laredo on November 27th. Facing a barrage of 46 shots, including 19 in the third period, Zelenewich weathered the storm and helped Corpus Christi post their first ever win at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Prior to Saturday's victory, the Rayz had been held winless in 15 prior contests in Laredo. Zelenewich earns Goaltender of the Week honors for the second time in the CHL, also winning the award for week three last season while playing for the Indianapolis Ice.
