Oakland Roots SC to Face MLS San Jose Earthquakes in the Round of 32 of the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on May 7th

Oakland, CA. - Oakland Roots Sports Club will take on Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes in the Round of 32 of the 2024 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Tuesday, May 7 at PayPal Park in San Jose, California. Kickoff is set for 7:00 PM PT.
Oakland Roots and San Jose Earthquakes will face off for the first time in a competitive match having only previously faced off in preseason friendlies. The two clubs are separated by about 40 miles and represent the only two professional men's soccer teams representing the Bay Area proper.
Oakland Roots have an all-time Open Cup record of 2-2 with the 2024 addition being the first time the club has reached the Round of 32. Oakland topped Local NPSL side El Farolito in the Third Round on Tuesday night by a score of 2-1 with Oakland's homegrown 18-year-old Ali Elmasnaouy scoring the winner in overtime.

About the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup:
In its 109th edition, the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup - U.S. Soccer's National Cup Competition - has crowned a champion annually since 1914 - with the exception of 2020 & 21 due to COVID-19. The history-filled tournament is conducted on a single-game, knockout basis and open to all professional and amateur teams affiliated with U.S. Soccer.
In 1999, the competition was renamed to honor United States soccer pioneer Lamar Hunt.The Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup is the oldest ongoing national soccer competition in the United States and the world's third-longest continuously run national cup tournament.
