Gateway Grizzlies News Release

The Gateway Grizzlies announced today that the Oakland Athletics organization has purchased the contract of catcher Trevor Brown. Brown becomes the 14th Grizzlies player to move into an affiliated organization. He is the sixth member of the Grizzlies Frontier League Championship team to be purchased by a Major League organization.

Brown, a native of Eugene, Oregon, joined the Grizzlies midway through the 2003 season. He appeared in 23 games after signing with Gateway July 24.

In 23 games, Brown hit .270 with a pair of home runs and eight RBIs. Brown had a pair of RBIs in the series-clinching game three of the Championship Series.

Should Brown fail to make a team within the Oakland organization, he would likely return to the Grizzlies, as the team would retain the rights to his contract.

Reiter goes to Camp. . . Centerfielder and St. Louis native, Jimmy Reiter has been invited to spring training by the San Diego Padres. Reiter, a second team All-American while at University of Missouri-St. Louis, joined the Grizzlies in early June. In 76 games, Reiter hit .284 with six home runs and 39 RBIs. Reiter stole a team-best 16 bases during 2003. Like Brown, if Reiter does not make a Padres club he would return to the Grizzlies. If he stays with the Padres organization, they would then be responsible for purchasing his contract.
