CHICAGO (July 3, 2015) - Following the conclusion of the Semifinals of the FIFA Women's World Cup 2015, the National Women's Soccer League takes an inside look at the important numbers from the 53 NWSL players that participated in the tournament.
Below is a unique look into the NWSL by the Numbers - Women's World Cup:
1 The number of international goals by Sky Blue FC defender Kelley O'Hara in 62 appearances for the U.S. Women's National Team - which came in the United States' 2-0 victory over Germany in the semifinals at the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup.
3 Consecutive World Cup matches in which Houston Dash midfielder and U.S. international Carli Lloyd has scored - matching Michelle Akers (1991) and Abby Wambach (2003, 2011) who previously accomplished the feat.
4 Goals by Portland Thorns FC players (Christine Sinclair 2, Alex Morgan, Jodie Taylor) - the most of any NWSL club at 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup. The Houston Dash (Carli Lloyd 3), Boston Breakers (Kyah Simon) and Washington Spirit (Veronica Perez, Francisca Ordega, Ngozi Okobi) are tied for second with three goals each.
5 The number of NWSL players set to participate in the World Cup Final whom have the opportunity to play every minute of the tournament: Chicago Red Stars defender Julie Johnston (United States), FC Kansas City defender Becky Sauerbrunn (United States), Houston Dash midfielder Carli Lloyd (United States), Houston Dash defender Meghan Klingenberg (United States), Seattle Reign FC goalkeeper Hope Solo (United States).
8 NWSL clubs (out of the nine in the league) that have had a player with a goal or assist at the tournament. The only team in the league without a player to have recorded a goal or assist is FC Kansas City, the defending NWSL Champions.
