NWBL announces 2005 schedule

November 22, 2004 - National Women's Basketball League (NWBL)
Colorado Chill News Release

The Colorado Chill and the National Women's Basketball League announced its full schedule for the 2005 season today. The Chill is scheduled for 14 home games, which include one exhibition game and the NWBL All-Star Game.

Colorado, in its second season, will open January 9 with an exhibition game against the Chicago Blaze. The Chill's first regular season home game will take place on Saturday, January 15 against the Lubbock Hawks. (The season starts strong at home for the Chill.) In the month of January, the Chill plays 7 of their 9 games at home.

"We hope with the strong home stretch start it will give us a great jump on the league standings," said Kelly Packard, Head Coach for the Chill. "Last year the team went undefeated at home, and we are hoping to continue that tradition."

The NWBL's schedule has a different look from the 2004 season. The 2005 season will include the Colorado Chill, Birmingham Power, Chicago Blaze, Dallas Fury, Lubbock Hawks, and the San Jose Spiders. Since last season, the league lost the Springfield Spirit and the Houston Stealth. The additions to the league are the Hawks and Spiders.

The exhibition game scheduled on January 9 will be the second exhibition game on the Chill's schedule. The Chill and the Blaze are scheduled to play on Saturday, January 8, in Rapid City, South Dakota. This will be the first opportunity for Becky Hammon, one of the Chill's marquee players, to return home to play in front of a "home town" crowd. For South Dakota ticket information call 1-800-GOTMINE or online at www.gotmine.com.

The regular season ends March 27, with an away game scheduled against the San Jose Spiders. The playoffs run March 30 through April 2. The playoffs have been revamped from a one-location tournament to the top seeded teams host semifinals. There is a possibility of the Chill hosting two playoff games at the Budweiser Events Center.

"We worked really hard this year to get the majority of our games off of the middle of the week," said Dave King, General Manager for the Chill. "Last year we had half of our 12 home games on Tuesday evenings. We listened to our fans and passed that onto the league. This year, we have 10 of our 14 home games on Friday, Saturday, or Sunday."
