Bakersfield Blaze News Release

The Bakersfield Blaze and Modesto Nuts have played some low-scoring games in 2015 already, and Tuesday night gave the others a run for their money, with the two clubs going into extra innings tied at one run before Modesto mounted a rally in the 10th to walk off, 2-1, on Tuesday night in Modesto.

Edwin Diaz got the start for the Blaze, and Edwin was tremendously impressive once again. The fireballing righthander allowed a solo homer in the 1st inning before settling down to work an additional five scoreless frames. The homer snapped a streak of 11.2 innings of spotless ball for Diaz, but six innings and seven strikeouts isn't half bad.

For Modesto, Grahamm Wiest got the start, and battled through five innings. Bakersfield plated just one run off Wiest, an unearned tally in the 4th. Tyler Marlette was hit by a pitch before Austin Wilson singled, and an error moved the runners up a base. Marcus Littlewood followed with a sacrifice fly to tie the game at one run apiece.

But Bakersfield stranded six baserunners while Wiest was on the hill, and that would be the team's last true opportunity.

Sam Moll struck out seven of the nine Blaze he faced in three innings of relief for the Nuts, and Modesto closer Carlos Estevez (W, 4-0) worked two scoreless innings to pick up the win.

For the Blaze, Will Mathis worked the 7th and 8th innings, pitching out of trouble in the 8th, and Emilio Pagan (L, 1-3) worked a 1-2-3 9th.

In the 10th, though, with two outs and the bases empty, the Nuts mounted a quick rally. Cesar Galvez singled and Raimel Tapia doubled with the runner in motion, plating the winning run, and sending the Blaze back to the hotel in despair.

The loss drops Bakersfield back to the 500 mark with two more to go on the current seven game road trip, both in Modesto.

Ryan Yarbrough gets the call for Bakersfield on Wednesday night, and Antonio Senzatela will toe the rubber for the Nuts. First pitch is set for 7:05pm.

Fans are encouraged to listen to every pitch live at BakersfieldBlaze.com. Dan Besbris has the call, with pregame show set to begin at 7:00pm. Fans can also listen to the broadcast on a mobile device by downloading the TuneIn Radio app.
