Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks and City of Hope | Antelope Valley have teamed up to present Cancer Awareness Night for this Friday's 6:30 p.m. game against Lake Elsinore at The Hangar.
The second annual Cancer Awareness Night will feature events throughout the game that include City of Hope | Antelope Valley patients and a physician representative.
The night will be headlined by the season's first Home Run for Life featuring 8-year-old cancer survivor Danielle Chourbagi. The Lancaster-native was 5 years old when she was diagnosed with Stage IV kidney cancer that had spread to her lungs. After being treated at City of Hope | Antelope Valley, Chourbagi has been in remission for almost two years and is finishing first grade. She was named Little Miss Lancaster in 2014 and is a part of Westside 4-H.
Both teams will line up on the first and third base between innings early in the game as Chourbagi is announced out to home plate. She will then run around the bases, high-fiving both teams before meeting her family back at home plate.
Last Thursday, a group of JetHawks players and front office personnel toured City of Hope | Antelope Valley and visited with Chourbagi and other patients.
Other patients who will be involved with pregame ceremonies include Amanda Bailey of California City, Tim Hill of the San Fernando Valley and John Dalton of Santa Clarita. Bailey, 33, is currently undergoing treatment for Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Hill, 25, is a left-hander in the Kansas City Royals organization who played in the Pioneer League last season before being diagnosed with Stage III colon cancer. Dalton, 41, was diagnosed with testicular cancer last year and recently finished his last chemotherapy.
All patients will throw a ceremonial first pitch along with City of Hope | Antelope Valley physician Nimit Sudan, M.D. who specializes in medical oncology and hematology. Sudan will also be interviewed live on the JetHawks radio broadcast.
Throughout the game, City of Hope | Antelope Valley will provide helpful tips on cancer prevention, and following the game, fans can enjoy a Fireworks Extravaganza presented by City of Hope | Antelope Valley.
