March 5, 2005 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Mississippi RiverKings News Release

SOUTHAVEN---The Memphis RiverKings won their fifth in-a-row on Friday night and got some help in the process to keep them very much in the playoff race. The RiverKings defeated the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees 6-2 and, with Tulsa's loss to Laredo, are five points out of the final playoff spot in the Northern Conference. Don Parsons' five point night with two goals and three assists, including the 500th of his career, finished the prevalence of the number five in the game. David Lemanowicz won his fifth straight with a 43 save performance as the Killer Bees actually out-shot Memphis 45-20 including 34-7 in the second and third periods.

It would be the Bees that would jump out first. Blaz Emersic cleaned up a rebound at 13:08 of the first period. That goal seemed to awaken the RiverKings as they took it to Rio Grande Valley the rest of the period. Parsons' two goals were within a minute-58 of each other in the first period. The first came at 16.44 on a great feed from Aaron Lewis who was at the near wall and found Parsons on the far wing. The second Parsons' tally was on a Phil Aucoin centering pass after a steal behind the net. The goals were Parsons' league-leading 47th and 48th of the season and gave Memphis the lead for good.

Tim Plett, Ted Crowley and Phil Aucoin would all help to put the Bees away with second and third period goals. Aucoin finished the night with two goals and an assist. Lewis and Travis Banga chipped in multi-point nights with two assists apiece.

Lemanowicz improved to 17-4-0 while Jeff Levy took the loss and fell to 14-23-1. Both teams were one for six on the power-play.

The RiverKings moved to 26-25-2 and are above .500 for the first time since November 9. Rio Grande Valley's record dropped to 15-34-3 as they also fell to 5-20-2 on the road.

Both teams do it again tomorrow (Saturday) night at 7:05 at the DeSoto Civic Center. The first 3,000 fans to game will receive a DeSoto Athletic Club T-Shirt. It is also Horn Lake Community night and there will be the post-game Ducks Unlimited Jersey Auction.
