
NPF playoff and championship series to be held in Akron

AKRON, Ohio â August 9, 2004 â The National Pro Fastpitch (NPF) league office and the Akron Racers Foundation recently announced that Firestone Stadium in Akron, Ohio, will be the site of the 2004 NPF playoffs and championship series. The entire playoff and championship series will be held in Akron on August 25-29.
The first round of the NPF playoffs will feature the No. 1 seed against the No. 4 seed and the No. 2 seed against the No. 3 seed in a best-of-three series with games on August 25-27. In the championship series, the winners of the previous two playoff series will face each other in a best-of-three match-up with games on August 28 and 29. The 2004 NPF champions will take home the inaugural Cowles Cup, named for the league's founding family.

August 25
6:00 p.m.: No. 2 seed vs. No. 3 seed
8:00 p.m.: No. 1 seed vs. No. 4 seed
August 26
6:00 p.m.: No. 2 seed vs. No. 3 seed
8:00 p.m.: No. 1 seed vs. No. 4 seed
August 27 (if necessary)
6:00 p.m.: No. 2 vs. No. 3 seed
8:00 p.m.: No. 1 vs. No. 4 seed
August 28
7:00 p.m.: Winner of No. 2/No. 3 vs. Winner of No. 1/No.4
August 29
4:00 p.m.: Winner of No. 2/No. 3 vs. Winner of No. 1/No. 4
6:00 p.m.: Winner of No. 2/No. 3 vs. Winner of No. 1/No. 4 (if necessary)
NPF is the world's premier professional fastpitch softball league for women, and consists of six teams located throughout the United States. The league features former USA Softball Women's National Team members, collegiate All-Americans and all-conference selections.
The Akron Racers Foundation, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to providing numerous activities for area amateur and youth fastpitch softball teams. Its mission is to provide a comprehensive "Grassroots to the Pros" program. Not only does it host and conduct many leagues and clinics for youth and amateurs; it also owns and operates the Akron Racers, a member of the six-team NPF league.
The Racers are currently one and one-half games out of first place in the NPF, and have spent several weeks in the top position throughout the season.
