Ohio Valley Greyhounds News Release
Sioux Falls, SD (January 13, 2003)â Bryant Notree of the Gary Steelheads defeated Cory Hightower of the Great Lakes Storm in the 10th CBA Slam Dunk Championship final, and Malik Dixon of the Dakota Wizards out-shot Tyson Wheeler of the Yakima Sun Kings and Larry Ayuso of the Grand Rapids Hoops, in the final round of the 9th CBA Long Distance Shootout, tonight at the CBA All-Star Fan Jam in Sioux Falls, S.D. The 19th CBA All-Star Game will tip-off tomorrow, January 14, at 7:00 p.m. MST.
Notree breezed through the first round of competition, which also included Albert White of the Rockford Lightning and Victor Thomas of the Sioux Falls Skyforce, with three ferocious jams. For his nail-in-the-coffin dunk in the final round, he inlisted a little help from James Head of the Storm and teammate Jemeil Rich. With Head on all fours in the middle of the paint and Rich sitting on his back, facing the other end of the floor, Notree began running from midcourt and lept from just inside the free-throw line as Rich tossed the ball straight up. Notree caught the rock, extended both arms above his head, and reigned down a thunderous two-handed jam.
In the Long Distance Shootout Wheeler posted the best first round performance with 21 points, including 10-10 shooting form the corners. Dixon tallied 16 and four players tied for third with 14. Ayuso earned the third and last spot for the final round by defeating Brian Green of the Idaho Stampede, Miles Simon of the Wizards, and Hightower in a 30-second shootout. In the final round Dixon knocked down 23 points to Wheeler and Ayuso's 19 each, to take the title. Fred Vinson of the Sun Kings and Kelley McClure of the Skyforce also partook in the 3-point contest.
