Columbus Destroyers News Release

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Columbus Destroyers practiced for the final time on Huntington Field at Nationwide Arena Sunday. The Destroyers will finish out Training Camp at the Columbus FieldHouse. Sunday's practice was spent entirely on special teams.

"Today I got my confidence back up because my leg was getting a little tired," kicker Miro Kesic said. "I gained some energy and got my pop back up in my kicks."

It was an important day for Kesic and the special teams' players, as it was the last time the team would be in Nationwide Arena until the first game of the season on Sunday, Jan. 29 against the Grand Rapids Rampage.

"It's a good way to get better and finalize all the aspects of the special teams," Kesic said. "It's been a long camp and it's pretty nice to put everything together, since this is a very important part to the game."

Mainly for Kesic, it was a good day to work on kickoffs and long field goals.

"It felt nice to really get some work in before the game," Kesic said. "It's always good to get the game feel out here on this field."

Now Kesic will spend the next couple of days getting some rest.

"Rest is the number one thing that I am going to do," Kesic said. "I am not going to do anything for about three days other than some running, some lifting and going to the ice tub to get life back into my legs, that way, I can get ready for the game."

PRACTICE HIGHLIGHTS

Kicker Miro Kesic spent a good amount of time working on various onside kicks, including the surprise onside kick With a few players nicked due to injury, Sunday was a day of rest for those players so they could rest their injuries

Defensive Specialist Brandon Hefflin's comments on the day...

On spending three days in Nationwide Arena...

"It felt good. It was nice to go out there against different people and different competition on (Saturday). (Sunday) was good to get out and get some light running in to get the lactose acids out of our systems and rest up some soreness."

On spending Sunday working on special teams...

"It was very important to get that work in. Sometimes games come down to one or two possessions and that play could be on special teams. That special teams play could mean the difference in the ballgame."

Fullback/linebacker Deon Dyer's comments on the day...

On the light day of work...

"I think, for the most part, we have been banging and competing with one another, today was a very effective learning day because few things did go wrong during (Saturday's) scrimmage so far as technique and position on the special teams."

On the importance of working on special teams...

"I think the most important thing was being able to pain attention, learn and listen and actually walk through things. When you are not working at a fast speed and pace, you are able to adjust more when you walk through it. Then (Monday) when we go back to practice, we can time it up and it will look right."
