Paul Jacinto, the NEL's Rookie Pitcher of the Year, was once again brilliant, allowing two runs, one earned, over eight innings as Quebec evened its best-of-five series with North Shore at one-game apiece with an 8-2 victory. The teams will now travel to Quebec to play the final three contests of the series beginning tomorrow. For the second straight game, Les Capitales jumped out to an early lead as Goef Tomlinson and Eddie Lantigua had run-producing hits in the first for a 2-0 lead. As they did yesterday, the Spirit fought back, scoring a run in the fourth and tying the game in the seventh on Frank Charles' double to left field. Quebec took the lead for good in the eighth at 4-2 when Rickie Morton hit the first of his two home runs on the night. Les Capitales would tack on four in ninth as Shane Hopper and Morton each hit two-run shots for the final score of 8-2. Klae Calvert took the loss after tossing 7 2/3 innings and giving up four runs while striking out nine. Buck McNabb went 3-for-4 with two runs scored for Les Capitales.

Jay LaFlair's double, one of his four hits in the game, to deep left-center field with one out in the bottom of the 10th plated Scott Goodman to give New Jersey a 5-4 victory over Bangor in game one of the South Division Playoffs. Darren Ciraco's solo home run to lead off the bottom of the ninth sent the game to extra innings with the score tied 4-4. The Lumberjacks had taken their first lead of the ballgame in the top of the frame when Mark Burke doubled home Kazuhiro Kohno, but John Mangieri was unable to protect it. Fabricio Benitez got the win after 1 2/3 innings of scoreless relief. New Jersey jumped out to a 3-0 in the first as Zack Smithlin drove in the first run of the contest and then came around to score on Wady Almonte's two-run single. Bangor chipped away at the lead, scoring two in the fourth on Shin Uchino's triple and then tying the contest in the seventh when Derry Hammond drove in Jose Garcia. Game two of the best-of-five series is tomorrow night at Yogi Berra Stadium.
