Pittsfield Suns News Release

PITTSFIELD, MA - The Pittsfield Suns only managed two hits in the ballgame and lost to the North Shore Navigators 6-4 Friday evening at Wahconah Park.

After honoring the Pittsfield Girls Softball teams, the Suns took the field and recorded one unearned run in the first inning. Lead off hitter Derek Bauer walked, stole second base and would advance to home on two consecutive errors by Navigator first baseman, Mason Koppens, giving the Suns an early 1-0 lead.

North Shore came raging back in the third plating three runs, two of them earned. After a walk to Tanner Bush, Sheldon Brogden singled and an error by Suns' centerfielder Ryan Olmo, allowed Tanner to score the first run of the frame. Richie Fecteau sacrificed himself to advance Brogden, who would later score on a double from Chad Martin. The Navigators final run of the inning came after an error by Cam O'Neill, allowing Martin to score from second, squelching the Suns lead and putting the visitors up 3-1.

The Navigators were able to manufacture three additional runs in the sixth inning, highlighted by a 2-RBI single from Brogden to widen the gap 6-1.

The Suns attempted another come-from-behind victory in the eighth after loading the bases with no outs, scoring three total runs, but came up short putting the final tally at 6-4 North Shore.

Navigator pitcher Steve Xirinachs was brilliant through six innings, allowing only one hit and one earned run and striking out six in more than six innings of work. He would get the win for North Shore, while Pittsfield's Matt Van Riper would record the loss.

The Suns return to Wahconah Park Sunday, June 21. Fans can celebrate Father's Day with the Suns and enjoy a catch on the field with their dad on the field at 3 PM, prior to a 4 PM first pitch. It's also Family Sunday, sponsored by WUPE. Bring your Suns Super Sunday Save Coupon to the box office and get four tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas all for just $20!
