North Shore Navigators Sign Marblehead's Engstrom, Sutherland from Cochise

January 17, 2018 - Futures Collegiate Baseball League (FCBL) - North Shore Navigators News Release

LYNN, Mass. - The North Shore Navigators added some geographic variety to their 2018 roster on Tuesday with the signing of Marblehead native catcher Harrison Engstrom and utility player George Sutherland, both from Cochise College in Douglas, Arizona. General manager Bill Terlecky made the announcement.

"Harrison becomes the third catcher signed to our roster, while George will be a valuable asset with the ability to play multiple positions," Terlecky said. "I'm excited to welcome both of them to the Navigators from a strong junior college program."

Engstrom attended both Marblehead High School and Bridgton Academy before enrolling at Cochise. The 6-foot-3, 210-pound backstop served as one of the Headers' captains, along with future Navigator teammate and Holy Cross freshman Garret Keough, as a senior and was also recognized as a Division 2 Player to Watch by the Boston Herald. Engstrom is a third-generation catcher in his family, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather who played at Ferris State University and Aquinas College, respectively, in Michigan.

Sutherland is a 6-foot, 180-pound infielder/outfielder from East Northport, N.Y. He earned All-League honors in Suffolk County on Long Island during two of his varsity seasons â=80 - as a sophomore and senior â=80 - at Northport High School, the same high school that 2015 Navigator Player of the Year Brandon Fischer attended.

Engstrom and Sutherland become the first players in Navigators history from a school located in the Grand Canyon State. Head coach Todd Inglehart has been at the helm of the Cochise program for 18 seasons, and his teams have averaged nearly 40 wins per year since 2004.

The Navigators will be announcing more additions to the roster in the coming weeks and months in preparation for the 2018 season, which begins on May 31.
