North Shore Navigators News Release

LYNN, Mass. - The North Shore Navigators have added two more rising college freshmen to their pitching staff for the 2020 season.

Pitchers Griffin Green (Virginia Tech) and Matt Scannell (Princeton) will both join the Futures Collegiate Baseball League club this summer as they make final preparations before advancing to the Division 1 level. President and General Manager Derek January made Monday's announcement.

Green will join the Hokies in the fall after completing a postgraduate year at Phillips Andover where the Big Blue finished each of the last two seasons as New England's No. 1 prep team. Prep Baseball Report ranked the 6-foot-3, 210-pound righty as the No. 15 player in the region's 2020 senior class. He played varsity ball for three seasons at Chelmsford High School, helping the Lions to the semifinal round of the Division 1 North playoff bracket as a senior.

Scouting Report: big, hard-throwing RHP ... sits in 88-92 range ... excellent command and pitchability ... very good secondary stuff ... MLB comp: Alex Cobb.

Scannell is in the midst of his senior year at Reagan High School in his hometown of San Antonio, Texas, where he is an outfielder and left-handed pitcher on the nation's No. 7 high school team according to last week's MaxPreps Top 25. He is primarily expected to pitch for the Navs. The 5-foot-11, 185-pounder was an All-District performer at Saint Mary's Hall over his first three high school seasons and earned Second Team All-State honors to cap his time there. He was also an All-State quarterback and safety on the football team as a junior.

Scouting Report: 85-88 from the left side ... arsenal includes an excellent curveball ... very good athlete ... MLB comp: Rich Hill.

The Navs are now preparing for the 13th season of collegiate ball at Fraser Field and their ninth in the Futures League. The 2020 opener is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27.
