North Shore Navigators News Release
LYNN, Mass. - The North Shore Navigators have signed two freshman pitchers from a familiar Ivy League school for their 2020 season in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League.
Dartmouth College will have a place with the Navs for the fifth time in six years as President and General Manager Derek January announced the signing of Luke Carpenter and Jack Metzger. The two newest members of the team were introduced on Thursday.
Carpenter joined the Big Green from Charlotte, N.C., where he was a two-year varsity letterman at Ardrey Kell High School. He helped the Knights post a 27-7 record as a junior and went 7-0 with 52 strikeouts entering the North Carolina 4A State Championship. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound left-hander was his team's Most Valuable Player and threw two no-hitters in high school.
Scouting Report: Lefty with lots of swing and miss stuff ... will throw important innings out of the bullpen for Dartmouth ... MLB comp: Jeff Locke.
The 6-foot-4, 195-pound Metzger hails from Powell, Ohio, and finished his career as a senior captain, Division 1 All-State Second Team pitcher and the Central District Player of the Year at Olentangy Liberty High School. Metzger was a two-time all-conference selection who helped the Patriots win 30 games and become Ohio state champions as a junior. He also earned two letters in basketball.
Scouting Report: big RHP with tons of upside ... throws three pitches for strikes from a three-quarter arm slot ... MLB comp: Derek Lowe.
Carpenter and Metzger are teammates with three former Navigators at Dartmouth including senior captain, 2017 FCBL Pitcher of the Year and Hamilton-Wenham product Austen Michel. In addition, southpaw Trystan Sarcone and outfielder Kade Kretzschmar spent last summer together at Fraser Field after completing their freshman seasons with the Big Green.
The Navs are now preparing for the 13th season of collegiate ball at Fraser Field and their ninth in the Futures League. The 2020 opener is scheduled for Wednesday, May 27.
