North Shore Navigators News Release

Lynn, Massachusetts -- The North Shore Navigators have announced the signing of three division 1 players to bolster their summer roster. Danny Young and Cody Fulton from the University of Florida and Nick Backlund of Mercer University will all suit up for the Navigators this summer.

Danny Young is a freshman left-handed pitcher from Boca Raton, Florida. Before getting to Florida, Young had an extremely successful senior campaign at Saint Andrew's School, where he earned the Most Valuable Player, Best Pitcher, and Best Hitter awards. Young was also mentioned as a top player on ESPN High School's Florida All-State Baseball Team. He also led the country with 11 home runs as a junior and was first-team, all-area, and all-county. At Florida this season, Young has pitched in six innings for the Gators only giving up five runs while striking out five and keeping opposing batters to a .286 batting average.

Cody Fulton is a freshman outfielder from Davie, Florida. Last season at Hialeah, Fulton was selected as the District Player of the Year from the High School Baseball Network for hitting .422 with 25 runs, 25 RBIs, 7 doubles, and 4 home runs. Fulton also hit a three-run home run to break a scoreless tie and lead his team to the regional finals. The Navigators will look to Fulton as a staple in their lineup to help produce runs.

Nick Backlund, a junior economics major, is from San Jose California. This season Backlund was named a Louisville Slugger Preseason First Team All-American as well as a National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason First Team All-American. Last season Backlund was selected to the Atlantic-Sun All-Conference first team, ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region first team, Louisville Slugger All-American first team and the NCBWA All-American second team. Last season, Backlund also led the Atlantic-Sun Conference with a .381 batting average, a .668 slugging percentage, 85 hits, and 149 total bases. This season, Backlund is hitting .275 with 7 doubles, 4 home runs, 20 RBIs, a .551 slugging percentage, and 38 total bases. When asked about Backlund, Mercer head coach Craig Gibson said, "We are excited for Nick that he has already found a quality team to play for this summer in the North Shore Navigators. Some of the best summer ball in the country is played in New England and Nick is an All-American talent that should thrive up there this coming summer."

The Navigators home opener is Saturday, June 8th at 7:00 PM. Season tickets and party deck reservations are available now by calling the Navs at (781) 595-9400. For details and schedule information "like" us on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
