Huntsville Flight News Release
Huntsville, Ala. (Mar. 18) âThe North Charleston Lowgators extended their current win streak to three as they defeated the Huntsville Flight 96-91 today in the Von Braun Center. This loss eliminated the Flight from the NBDL playoff race.
"When a game is this important, a team has to play each possession like it's the game winning moment. We didn't play with that kind of intensity," said Flight head coach Bob Thornton. "North Charleston did a good job defensively and we couldn't overcome that."
Down by 11 points (92-81) with less than a minute remaining, the Flight mounted a 10-2 run to pull within three points (94-91); however, they could get no closer missing the final three shots of the game. North Charleston had control of the game from the opening tip pulling out to as much as a 13-point lead, scoring 52 points in the paint and 24 second-chance points.
The Flight (26-28) placed four players in double figures as Jimmie Hunter scored 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting. Eric Chenowith added 18 while Tyrone Ellis scored 11 and Lonnie Harrell chipped in 10.
The Lowgators (34-20) placed four players in double figures as Jamal Kendrick led the team with 24 points on 11-of-20 shooting and Sedric Webber, Fred House, and Galen Young scored 22, 18, and 17 points respectively.
"We played strong Lowgators' basketball which is hard defense pushing the ball," said North Charleston head coach Alex English. "All of our guys were hitting their shots and that was the difference in the game."
Mobile has now secured the fourth and final place in the 2002 NBDL playoff race.
North Charleston travels to Roanoke, Va. to take on the Dazzle on March 22. The Flight travels to Asheville, NC to take on the Altitude tomorrow, March 19 at 6 p.m.
