Nords Win on Senior Night with Another 6 Goal Outing

March 28, 2022 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Maine Nordiques News Release

The Maine Nordiques recognized their 2001 age out players tonight with their families in attendance to witness a great performance.

The Nords got started with some good chances but wouldn't find the back of the net until they got a power play twelve minutes in. On the power play the Nords moved the puck around beautifully. Nick Bernardo would fire a shot that got tipped into the back of the net by Iggy Belov in front to make it 1-0. The score would remain as such and the Nords would get a five minute power play to begin the second.

The second period started with Aidan Connolly's first goal of the game to make it 2-0 Nords. Since it was a five minute power play the Nords continued the attack and Schmedlin would snipe one to make it 3-0 and two goals on the five minute power play. The Generals would try to respond and would be given a penalty shot while they were on the power play due to covering your hand on the puck in the blue paint. Avery Sturtz would come up big with a save on it. The Gens would keep the pedal to the metal; however and find the twine to make it 3-1. Just like last night however the Nords would respond. They would head to the power play and Zion Green would find Theo Thrun who sniped one bar down to get the goal back. The Nords would get another power play as time was winding down in the second and Nick Bernardo threw another shot that was tipped home but this time it was Aidan Connolly for his second of the night and fourth of the weekend. 5-1 Nords after two periods.

The Gens came out flying in the third and a great forecheck would lead to a goal for them on a turnover to pull themselves within three with plenty of time to go. Avery Sturtz would make some key saves and the Generals would pull their goalie and Brendon Gibbons would score his third of the weekend to seal the deal 6-2.

The Nords look to get the brooms tomorrow at 1pm for the last game of their three game set here at the Colisee.
