Nords Take Home Opener 4-3

The Maine Nordiques took on the Danbury Hat Tricks for their first game of the season at the Colisee. The game featured a banner raising before the game and a congratulations on last years Nordiques for taking home the East Division crown.

The first couple minutes were back and forth between the 2 teams as this was their first matchup of the season. Aidan Connolly, however would get the first goal at the Colisee this season on a second chance opportunity when his initial pass to Tyler Gaulin was blocked back door. The puck would then come free into the slot where he would put one top shelf for the 1-0 lead. The Hat Tricks then get on the board on a shorthanded tally on a third chance opportunity following two big saves from Avery Sturtz, who would finish with 31 saves. With time winding down in the first, Reese Farrell would make a one time a pass home from Tyler Gaulin and Aidan Connolly.

In the second period the Nordiques would start with a carry over power play, but not be able to convert. The Hat Tricks would at the 2:49 marker on a rebound chance. The game was neutral zone back and forth until the Nords finally were able to cause a turnover and Tyler Gaulin would find Iggy Belov on a 2 on 1; which Belov one timed home top shelf. Things would elevate physically with a shove fest in front of Avery Sturtz and gloves would come off, which lead to another carry over power play for the Nords to start the Third.

The third period started with the Nordiques being unable to get a power play tally; they would keep the pressure on and Aidan Connolly would tip home a point shot to give the Nords their biggest lead of the night 4-2. The two teams would then trade off power plays which were both unsuccessful. The Hat Tricks then cut the Nords lead to 1 at the halfway marker of the third period. The Hat tricks would pull their goalie and throw everything they had at the Nords, but Avery Sturtz would make some key saves and the Nords would hang on for the home opening win.

The 2 teams face-off against each other again tomorrow night at 7 at the Colisee.
