Nords Kick off 2022 with a Victory

January 2, 2022 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Maine Nordiques News Release

The Nordiques were looking for vengeance against the Hat Tricks after falling to them in game 1 of the weekend set.

The first period and 2022 started off with a bang, as Iggy Belov took just 1:30 to score the first goal of the year for the Nordiques. The Nords would then kill off a penalty and be rewarded with another goal from Theo Thrun (who finished with 3 on the weekend) after he tipped home a Brendan Kimball point shot. Iggy Belov would then add another to make it 3-0 after the first period.

The Hat Tricks would come out firing in the second only taking twenty seconds to find the back of the net. However, Tristan Fasig would respond and would also finish with three points on the night. The Nordiques would then surrender a power play goal and another goal as the Hat Tricks second man advantage was expiring. 4-3 Nords after the second.

Heading into the third period it was anyones game and the Nordiques were helped to some great goaltending by Avery Sturtz in net before Zion Green found a streaking Evan Orloff to give them a 2 goal lead. The Nordiques would then swing to a power play and Reese Farrell would find the back of the net to make it 6-3. The Hat Tricks would then pull their goalie and Aidan Connolly who finished with 4 points on the weekend buried it into the empty net to seal the deal.

The Nordiques hit the road for Northwest Arena for the first time in over two years to square off against the Jamestown Rebels on Friday.
