
Nogueira Goalie of the Year Again

(Westport, CT. - April 22, 2003) - Milwaukee Wave Goalkeeper Victor Nogueira has been voted as the Major Indoor Soccer League's Goalkeeper of the Year for the 8th consecutive year. In the 2000-01season Nogueira shared the Goalkeeper of the Year Award with Peter Pappas. This will also be Nogueira's 12th League Goalkeeper of the Year Award (nine NPSL/MISL, and three old MISL).
The 43- year -old native of Mozambique began his professional soccer career at age 15 with the Johannesburg, South Africa First Division Rangers FC. Representing the United States in the 1996 Futsal World Cup, Nogueira led the U.S. Team to the silver medal and was named the "Number One Indoor Goalkeeper in the World."
Nogueira just finished his 20th season of professional indoor soccer. He has won four League Most Valuable Player Awards including two in the NPSL/MISL (1995-96, 1997-98). His 438 regular season wins are the most in League history (Jamie Swanner 296) and his 252 wins are second all-time in the NPSL/MISL behind Swanner. Victor's 40, 915 minutes played are the most league all-time, and his 9,030 saves are the most league all-time.
This 2002-03 season Nogueira led the Wave to a MISL leading 28-8 record and posted a personal 25-3 won/loss record and a 7.48 goals against average. His statistics include most wins (25), save percentage (.773) and goals against average (7.48). Nogueira was named the MISL Defensive Player of the Week four times, and Defensive Player of the Month three times (October, January, and February).
Just finishing his 11th season with the Milwaukee Wave, Nogueira also serves as an assistant on the Wave coaching staff, Nogueira played in his ninth MISL/NPSL All-Star Game representing the Milwaukee Wave. In the 1999-00 season Nogueira had the distinction of being the first player in North American Indoor soccer history to play in four decades.
Nogueira is very active in the Milwaukee community, he is the Director of Coaching for the Cedarburg Soccer Club and the MACC (Midwest Athletes against Childhood Cancer) Fund and many other charities.
