No Players Selected in Waiver Process
February 24, 2003 - Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) News Release
ATLANTA (Monday, February 24, 2003) - The Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) announced today that no players whose options were not exercised on Friday, February 21 were selected during the Waiver Process.
Since no players were selected during the WUSA Waiver Process, all 25 players (with the exception of Rebekah McDowell) are unrestricted and may re-enter the league through the tryout process. The lone exception, McDowell was not eligible for the Waiver Process due a pending trade between the Washington Freedom and the Philadelphia Charge. The trade, which sent McDowell to Washington for Anne Makinen on February 2, 2003, is dependent on the Finnish international's immigration status.
Individual Team Preseason Training will begin Saturday, March 1.
Featuring the best women's soccer players in the world, WUSA athletes include Mia Hamm, Brandi Chastain, Tiffeny Milbrett, Briana Scurry, Julie Foudy and dozens of international stars. The eight WUSA teams are the Atlanta Beat, Boston Breakers, Carolina Courage, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit, San Jose CyberRays and the Washington Freedom. The league will kick off its third season on April 5.
