No Magic for SwampDogs on Disney Night
June 21, 2018 - Coastal Plain League (Coastal Plain)
Fayetteville SwampDogs News Release
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - As the clock approached midnight, there was no glass slipper for the SwampDogs.
On a night when Fayetteville's fans came out dressed as their favorite Disney characters, it was the Holly Springs Salamanders who walked away happily ever after, scoring in double digits for the second straight game in a 15-5 win over the SwampDogs.
The final score would have been unrecognizable based on the way the first six innings went. Two-thirds of the way through the night, both teams had scored just one run. From there, though, it was just about all Holly Springs. The Salamanders scored six in the seventh, three in the eighth, and five in the ninth to pull away from Fayetteville. The SwampDogs did respond with one in the eighth and three in the ninth, but the game was already out of reach.
The loss was the SwampDogs' first of the season against Holly Springs, and Fayetteville remains in second place in the east division at 7-8.
The SwampDogs will have a chance to bounce back tomorrow as they host the Wilmington Sharks. The first 500 fans in attendance, 21 and over, will receive cool shades courtesy of Yuengling and Healy Wholesale.
