Manchester Wolves News Release
MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 19, 2005) â The Manchester Wolves are back home this week and hope to cage the South Georgia Wildcats this Friday night (May 20) in an American Conference showdown at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The top-ranked Wolves (5-1) enter tomorrow night's contest in a first-place tie in the East Division on the strength of a five-game winning streak.
Despite a deceiving record of 2-4, the Wolves face a formidable foe ahead in South Georgia, who is currently tied for second place in the American Conference, South Division. The Wildcats have played well of late, however, winning their last two games after starting the year 0-4. The Wildcats' most recent win was their first at home in 2005, a 62-48 victory against the winless Arkansas Twisters on May 14. They are led by veteran QB and former AFL signal caller Bobby Pesavento. Through five games, Pesavento has thrown for 1,355 yards and 32 touchdowns. WR/LB Chris McKinney leads the receiving corps with 35 catches for 343 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a group, South Georgia's offense averages 49.0 points per game. McKinney is also a standout on defense, leading the team in tackles with 21.0. South Georgia, formerly Cape Fear, leads the all-time series with the Wolves, 3-2.
The Wolves are led on offense by their heady, steady QB Jake Eaton. The efficient Eaton currently leads the league in completion percentage (1st â 72.9) and passer rating (1st â 129.3), while also ranking among the af2's best in passing touchdowns (T-4th â 32) and passing yards (8th â 1,515). His favorite target is WR/LB J.J. McKelvey. McKelvey, a big, physical receiver, is currently tied for the league lead in receptions with 52. The former Clemson standout also ranks among the af2's elite in scoring with 92 points on 15 touchdowns and one 2-pt conversion. As a group, the Wolves average nearly 49 points per game ( 48.5). On defense, Manchester is just as tough. The Wolves boast two top-flight defensive specialists in William "Roc" Haith and Allistair Sebastien. Haith leads the league in tackles with 49.0 and is among the top-5 in passes defended with 13. Sebastien is currently tied for fourth in the af2 in tackles ( 41.0) and interceptions (4).
Tomorrow night's show begins at 6 p.m. with a special pre-game concert courtesy of 168 Magazine, featuring popular local music act, Meet the Day. The action inside the arena kicks off at 7:30 p.m. This Friday night is also "Touchdown Towel Night," where all fans through the doors will receive a FREE touchdown towel, courtesy of Catholic Medical Center, Northeast Delta Dental and 95.7 WZID. Great seats are still available. To get in the game, purchase your tickets today at the Verizon Wireless Arena box office or through Ticketmaster at 603-868-7300, at Ticketmaster outlets or online at www.ticketmaster.com. Adult seats start as low as $14.25 in the upper bowl while youth (12-and-under) and senior (65-and-over) tickets start at just $9.75.
