THE STAKES: Although Saturday night's contest is not a divisional game, it is an important game for the Coyotes and the Dusters. Both teams are looking to bounce back from losses last weekend, and both teams are looking for answers from new players as the injury bug makes its way around af2.
YES, HE'S THE SON OF THE HALL OF FAMER:
Central Valley Coyotes Head Coach Fred Biletnikoff Jr. is indeed the son of Oakland Raiders Hall of Fame Receiver Fred Biletnikoff. Fred Jr. took over the reigns as the Head Coach of the Coyotes last season, and worked hard at rebuilding the roster in the off-season following last year's disappointing 3-13 campaign.
COACH PERDUE'S THOUGHTS ON CENTRAL VALLEY:
"Central Valley's skill players can roll. Their receivers stretch the field and run double-move routes probably better than any other group that we've faced. It's ridiculous how much speed they have. Their secondary isn't necessarily the best in terms of technique, but they are very athletic and they will hit you in the mouth. Up front, they have some tanks. They are powerful and aggressive. They've got a little nasty streak, so we have to be ready to battle for four quarters. I don't think our big guys were ready to battle all night long against Memphis, so we've amped up our conditioning this week. We can't take plays off and expect to have a snowball's chance against the Coyotes. They have too much athleticism, and they can exploit you in a hurry if you don't bring it on every snap. We are both 4-2 and coming off of tough losses. Something's got to give."
MILES AND LEMONS PROVIDE UPGRADE:
The Dusters were thrilled to announce the assignments of Devin Lemons and Dewayne Miles on Tuesday. Devin Lemons was on the active roster of the Washington Redskins last season, and spent time with the Chicago Bears and Miami Dolphins as well. He was an outstanding Defensive End at Texas Tech, and starred locally at Pampa HS. Dewayne Miles shattered indoor rushing records for the Dusters last season, prompting the Austin Wranglers to sign him earlier this year. Miles appeared in one game for the Wranglers. Miles holds all the major rushing records at nearby West Texas A&M, and went to camp with the Detroit Lions and Minnesota Vikings.
DUSTERS INTERNET RADIO BROADCAST A HUGE SUCCESS
The Amarillo Dusters are developing a huge fan base nationwide, as the number of listeners for the game broadcast over the website has doubled since the season opener. "We have lots of players' families listening in across the country, and we've received dozens of e-mails from fans nationwide who are just interested in the Dusters and curious about us as an expansion team, " said Dusters play by play broadcaster Donny Hooper. "We have a unique broadcast for this level of football, in that we have a 15-year veteran football official as our sideline reporter (Ray Boring). He offers tremendous insight as to what is actually happening on the field. Tyler Hooper runs the parabolic field mic, so much like an NFL radio broadcast, our listeners can actually hear the quarterback bark the snap count, and try to draw the opponent offsides. Warren McCarty brings so much knowledge of the arena game to the broadcast, and helps the listener âsee' the routes and visualize the play itself. And mixed in with all of that, we have a great time and cut-up as much as we can. We have so much fun, and I think it makes our broadcast fun to listen to." The broadcast can be heard locally on 1440 AM The Score, Amarillo's ESPN Radio affiliate. Fans can also tune in via the Dusters website at www.dustersfootball.com.
KEY MATCHUP: SKILL MATCHUPS
With some of the fastest players in af2 on the field Saturday night, all eyes will be watching the skill match-ups between the Coyotes and Dusters. Former San Jose Sabercat (AFL) receiver George Williams has proven to be a go-to target for Coyotes QB Juston Wood, as he has snagged 32 passes in 5 games thus far, for 462 yards and 11 TD's. Wood's second-favorite target is receiver DeRonn Finley. Finley is right behind George Williams statistically, grabbing 31 passes for 363 yards and 6 TD's. Defensively, Marvin Brown leads the Coyotes secondary with 2 interceptions. The Coyotes are also eagerly awaiting the return of 2-way star Anthony Arceneaux to the lineup. Arceneaux was an All-af2 performer last season for the Hawaiian Islanders in 2004. He has missed the last 3 games with an injury. Chavis McCollister has been on fire for the Dusters since joining the lineup in week 3, posting 36 catches for 515 yards and 10 TD's in only 4 games. 2-way star Kendrick Walker has had 20 catches for 281 yards and 6 TD's, while 6'5 WR/LB D.J. Humphries has added 17 catches for 226 yards and 3 TD's over the past 4 games as well. Charles Davis' 3 interceptions leads the Dusters secondary, followed by middle DS Jimmy Gaston who has 2 of his own.
