
Nippert named Topps Player of the Month for August

MARIETTA, GA - Tennessee Smokies' right-hander Dustin Nippert was named the Topps Southern League Player of the Month for August. The Topps Company of New York, in conjunction with Minor League Baseball, presents the award each month to the top performer in each of the 10 full-season leagues.
Nippert had a perfect 3-0 record with a 1.12 ERA during the month. The 6-foot-7-inch 200-pound starter struck out 30 batters in 40.1 innings pitched. Nippert posted an 8-3 record with a league-leading 2.38 ERA in 18 starts with the Smokies this season. The big righty also tied for the league lead in complete games with three and shutouts with two. Nippert won the BC Pitcher of the Week Award for the week of August 1-7. The Diamondbacks recognized his outstanding season by calling Nippert up to Arizona on September 4. Baseball America rates Nippert the 14th best prospect in the Diamondbacks' organization. The Diamondbacks selected Nippert in the 15th round of the 2002 draft out of West Virginia University. He resides in Beallsville, OH.
