North Shore Navigators News Release
(Lynn, MA)- There might still be snow on the ground but the North Shore Navigators are already thinking about baseball as they announced that nine players will return to the 2014 squad. Mike Weisman, Steve Xirinachs, Rob DiFranco, Mick Terzi, Kyle Gauthier, Eric Dumas, Walker O'Connor, Joe Carnevale, and Justin Peluso will all return to Fraser Field this summer in pursuit of the elusive FCBL championship.
"I am excited for the upcoming season," said Manager Jon Cahill. "We are bringing back a very talented core group of players that I think will help the team immensely."
Weisman, a North Andover native, is entering his senior year at Columbia University. Last season, Weisman went 1-1 with a 4.79 ERA for the Navigators. Weisman was able to overcome a slow start to the season and only gave up five earned runs over the last month of the season while striking out 17 batters in 20 innings.
Xirinachs, a Los Angeles native, is entering his sophomore year at UMass Lowell. Last season Xirinachs joined the Navigators late in the season to provide bullpen relieve. The Navs will look for him to do the same this season.
DiFranco, a Melrose native, is entering his junior year at Bates College. Last season DiFranco also joined the Navigators late in the season as he only appeared in three games. DiFranco was extremely successful in these three appearances as he picked up a save and also tossed two innings of scoreless relief against the Nashua Silver Knights.
Terzi, a Wallingford, Connecticut native, is entering his junior year at Post University. Last season Terzi was integral part of the Navs pitching staff as he went 2-2 out of the bullpen and as a starter.
Gauthier, a Lynn native, is entering his junior year at the University of Hartford. Last season Gauthier appeared in 22 innings over the course of 16 games for the Navigators. Gauthier fanned 16 batters while posting a 1-1 record.
Dumas, a Brookline native, is entering his junior year at Wheaton College. Dumas joined the Navs halfway through the summer last season and appeared in 11 games posting a 1-0 record. Cahill will look to Dumas to provide stable bullpen relief.
O'Conner, a Bedford native, is entering his junior year at the University of West Florida. Last season O'Conner was extremely effective for the Navigators as he started five games going 3-3 with a 2.33 ERA. In each start O'Conner went at least five full innings never giving up more than two earned runs.
Carnevale, an East Providence native, is entering his senior year at Merrimack College. Carnevale will look to continue his success with the Navigators by providing depth to the starting rotation.
Peluso, a North Andover native, is entering his senior year at Wheaton College. Peluso was a solid utility infielder who provided depth at any position last season before being placed on the disabled list. Peluso hit .218 on the season including nine runs scored and three stolen bases.
The Navigators open up their home slate Saturday June 7th as they play host to the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs on Fraser Field's brand new turf field. Season tickets, group tickets, and individual tickets can be purchased now by calling (781)595-9400.
