Nighthawks Name Don Lawrence Offensive Line Coach

OMAHA, NE - Thursday, February 10 - Omaha Nighthawks head coach JOE MOGLIA has added another veteran assistant coach to his staff in offensive line coach DON LAWRENCE.

Boasting 45 years of football coaching experience, Lawrence has the distinction of having coached in both four consecutive Super Bowls in the National Football League and four consecutive World Bowls in the NFL Europe League. He was the Buffalo Bills offensive quality control / tight ends coach for their four Super Bowl appearances in the 1990-93 seasons, and coached with the Bills for 10 seasons in total (1983-84, 1990-97). Lawrence coached in two World Bowls as offensive line coach for the Frankfurt Galaxy and two as offensive line coach for the Amsterdam Admirals, winning one with each team.

"Having had the pleasure of working with Don at the Stars and Stripes College All Star Game, I could not be happier having someone of his ability and experience as part of The Nighthawks," said Moglia.

Lawrence added: "I am looking forward to coaching the Omaha Nighthawks and working for such a successful person as Joe Moglia. Omaha is a lovely city with a great fan base. We have visited Omaha a number of times and enjoyed our stay every time."

Lawrence was the offensive coordinator of the Berlin Thunder of NFL Europe in 2007, and was an assistant coach with the Cologne Centurions in 2006 after coaching in Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

Prior to his time in NFLE, Lawrence coached 18 seasons in the NFL, including stints with the Arizona Cardinals in 2000 (tight ends coach), the Kansas City Chiefs in 1981-82 and 1987-88 (defensive line coach) and 1980 (special teams coach) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1985-86. He also coached the offensive line of the Canadian Football League's Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 1989 and with the CFL British Columbia Lions in 1978 and 1979.

Lawrence started his coaching career at Notre Dame, where he played his college football. He also coached at Kansas State (1964-65), Cincinnati (1966), Virginia (1967-73), Texas Christian (1974-75) and Missouri (1976-77). He was the head coach at Virginia from 1971 to 1973, compiling an 11-22 record.

Lawrence was a seventh-round draft choice of the Washington Redskins in 1959. He played in 35 games as an offensive lineman for the Redskins from 1959 to 1961.
