Omaha Nighthawks News Release
Omaha, NE - Several Omaha Nighthawks football players spent part of their day off in the community.
In the morning, the players spent time with patients at Children's Hospital & Medical Center of Omaha. Safety Mike O'Connell took the lead in coordinating the visit; other players included punter Tom Mante and defensive lineman Damion Cook. The players went room to room meeting the patients and their families, which the patients and families appreciated.
"We don't have very many days off in our football season," states O'Connell. "I felt like Monday was the perfect day for us to spend some time with the kids at the hospital. I have to admit, though, that we went to try to make their day special, and in return I think my teammates and I benefited even more."
In the afternoon, defensive linemen Claude Harriott and Walter Curry went to Norris, Nebraska, where they spoke to the Norris High School Football Team. Both players shared their life stories and provided words of motivation to the student athletes.
The Norris High School visit originated when Harriott was on a plane heading to Omaha for the start of the Nighthawks season. He sat next to Superintendent John Skretta, who asked if Harriott would visit with the Norris team at some point during the season. On Monday, the request was met, and now the plan is being discussed for the Norris High School football team to attend one of the final Nighthawks home games this season.
The Nighthawks returned to practice Tuesday in preparation for their home game this Saturday, October 15 at 7:00 p.m. CST where they will host the Las Vegas Locos at TD Ameritrade Park. This home game coincides with the University of Nebraska football team's bye weekend.
Tickets still remain for the October 15 home game as well as the final home game on Friday, October 28.
