Night of honor

June 20, 2006 - National Indoor Football League (NIFL)
RiverCity Rage News Release

St. Louis, June 20, 2006-As announced this morning on WIL 92.3's "The Cornbread Morning Show," a former member of the Rage will soon be given the honor he has earned. Friday night on June 23, at Savvis Center, former Rage Wide Receiver Scott Pingel will have his #10 jersey retired. This will be the first number retired by a professional indoor football team in St. Louis. Pingel's #10 was also retired at his Alma matter Westminster College.

During his career, Pingel was acquired by the Buffalo Bills as a free agent; he played in the German Football League for the Rhein Main Razorbacks, the Show-Me Believers and ended his career with the Rage. "It was a great opportunity for me to play in front of my hometown," said Pingel about playing for the Believers and Rage. Pingel also had a special message for the fans, "I want the fans to know that they were a great support when times were rough, and I hope they continue their support of the Rage now that times are going well for the franchise."

Although Friday night will mark an official closing on a chapter in St. Louis Indoor Football history, it will also mark the beginning of what the franchise hopes will be a long tradition and way to show thanks to players who have spent their time and hard work promoting the sport in the St. Louis area. "Watching Scott prior to being an owner in the franchise was a phenomenal experience. After I became an owner I got to know him, and he is a true sportsman," said Scott Wilson, Rage Executive Vice President. Wilson went on to talk about Pingel's character saying, " He also really set a high standard for whoever comes from this point on to live up to. This honor couldn't be given to a better person. His character on and off the field showed in every aspect of his life, family and career."
