Night Of Champions Opens Home Slate

Mississippi Surge News Release


Home Opener: The Mississippi Surge opens the home portion of its season this Friday at 7:05 p.m. At the Miss Coast Coliseum against the Huntsville Havoc. Friday's game starts a seven game homestand for the Surge.

Road Recap: The Surge began the season on a three game road trip losing Thursday at Augusta, 4-2, with an empty net goal as time expired; losing 5-3 Friday at Knoxville; and winning Saturday 4-3 in a shootout at Columbus.

Banner Night: Prior to Friday's game the Surge will raise the SPHL President's Cup banner celebrating the 2010-11 championship season.

Trick Or Treat: Following Friday's game, kids can have a safe Trick or Treat event at the Coliseum. Surge players will be passing out the candy, after the game.

What Am I Bid': The Surge will wear special Night of Champions jerseys Friday night. Immediately following the game, the game worn jerseys which feature images of the championship rings will be auctioned. Then the Surge players will proceed to pass out the trick or treat candy.

Some Firsts: Rookie defenseman Scott Jenks got the first goal of the season for the Surge in the in the second period at Augusta on Friday. Rookie goaltender Kiefer Smiley posted the first win goal for the Surge, as he thwarted all four shootout attempts he faced in Columbus Saturday night.
