Nick Guerra earns California Division player of the week

SAN DIEGO, CALIF July 26, 2005- Nick Guerra, 3B/C for the San Diego Surf Dawgs, is the California Division Player of the Week. Guerra, a 24-year old rookie out of San Jose State University, hit for a .440 average during the week. His 11 hits included a double and a triple and he led the division with nine RBI. Guerra, who was selected to the GBL All-Star team earlier this month, raised his season batting average to .326.

Guerra's .326 average is the fourth best on his team, which posts the second best team average in the GBL at .290. Nick began the season as the team's starting catcher, however has a made a fantastic transition to third base as he shown great hands and a willingness to learn more about the "hot corner." Nick is a fan favorite for the Surf Dawgs, as he has an established local following being that he stared at University San Diego High School and Grossmont College.

"Nick Guerra has worked extremely hard and we are pleased with his work ethic and progress," said Juliana Paoli, General Manager of the San Diego Surf Dawgs. "He is a positive influence within the locker room, but most importantly he is a wonderful influence on our young fans. We are excited to have Nick be part of the Inaugural Surf Dawg team and receive the recognition he worked so hard for."
