NEWPORT, RI - The Newport St. Patrick's Day Parade is arguably the most highly anticipated event in Newport. Individuals from throughout New England line the streets of the City, creating a sea of green as far as the eye can see. Unfortunately, due to COVID-19, the 2020 and 2021 Parade was cancelled. It is the hope of the Newport Gulls, in partnership with the Newport Irish American Athletic Club, to fill the void left by these cancellations ever so slightly by presenting Newport Irish American Night on Wednesday, July 7.
The event will take place at Cardines Field as the Newport Gulls take on the Mystic Schooners. The stadium's gates and ticket booth open at 5:00 PM and the game's first pitch will come at 6:35 PM.
The influence in which the Irish and Irish culture have on the City of Newport is undeniable. To recognize and celebrate this influence, the Newport Gulls will have many Irish Organizations join them for a night of family fun at Cardines Field.
Traditional Irish singers and dancers will be in attendance to perform, you'll be able to get some of your favorite Irish foods at the concession stand, and the first 300 fans will be receiving an Irish American lapel pin. Additionally, local businesses have donated raffle packages as part of the Luck of the Irish Raffle that will take place throughout the event.
Newport Irish American Athletic Club, aka "The IA, is considered one of the oldest bars in Newport. Located in the heart of Newport's Fifth Ward at 642 Thames Street, the IA offers lodging options, pool, darts, pinball, and even the opportunity to get married. Although memberships are available, all are welcome at The IA, consistent with their slogan, "Everyone is Irish when they walk through our Door."
That theme is the goal of Wednesday's Newport Irish American Night as the Gulls and The IA hope that all who attend enjoy a wonderful night celebrating the rich Irish culture Newport has to offer.
