May 4, 2016 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Newport Gulls News Release
NEWPORT, R.I. - The Newport Gulls, considered the premier team in summer collegiate baseball, are looking for community-minded individuals who are interested in joining the organization for the 2016 season, which begins June 10 and runs through early August at Cardines Field.
Volunteers are needed to fulfill the fun roles of the team's mascots, Gully and Gully Jr., along with other key areas of the team's baseball operations, grounds crew, security, and media departments.
All Gulls volunteers willing to commit to spending their summer nights at historic Cardines Field receive season passes for family, a volunteer meal card for use at the Gulls concession stand, team apparel, and, of course, the experience of a lifetime supporting the nation's top collegiate baseball players as they take the field for 22 regular season home games at Newport's beloved ballpark. The Gulls are also hosting the prestigious NECBL All-Star Game this year on Sunday, July 17, which will be a memorable experience for everyone involved in the organization in and of itself.
Gulls games are conveniently scheduled on most Monday, Wednesday, and Friday nights this summer, and volunteers are typically asked to arrive at the ballpark between 4 and 5 p.m., depending on their game-night role. Open positions are available in the following areas:
- Mascots Gully and Gully Jr.
- Ballpark Security
- Grounds Crew
- Game Day Operations
- Press Box and Game Day Media Staff
Several volunteers have been with the Gulls organization since the beginning in 2001, and many more have been involved for over a decade. New volunteers are invited to join the organization and find out first-hand what keeps those dedicated volunteers coming back, year after year, as the people who make Gulls baseball possible at Cardines Field.
Those interested in joining the Newport Gulls staff and becoming part of the Gulls family should contact Director of Baseball Operations Nick Lima at 401-862-1435 or via email at operations@newportgulls.com.
