Newcomer Leads Rats Past Sharks

January 21, 2011 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release

It had been over a month since Rob Diggs played for the NBA Developmental League's Dakota Wizards. But there was little rust evident in his game as he debuted for the Saint John Mill Rats in the Premier Basketball League Friday night

The 23 year old out of George Washington University scored 23 points with a team high nine rebounds as the Rats held off the Rochester RazorSharks 100-88. Both teams are 2-3.

Once again the Sharks had a tough time getting out of the gate. They led for the first and only time at 4-3, falling 11 points behind. The RazorSharks have trailed at the half in four of their five games.

Keith Friel scored 11 of his 18 points in the 2nd quarter as Rochester cut Saint John's lead back to three at intermission at 52-49.

A 10 point 3rd quarter run put The Rats back in control with a 75-62 lead headed into the final 12 minutes. The Sharks scored just 13 in the quarter.

Despite falling behind by 15, Rochester climbed back to within three with 7:22 to play. The Sharks got no closer and lost by 12.

Jerice Crouch was the RazorShark scoring leader with 20 points. Friel and Todd McCoy scored 18 each. It was a season high for McCoy.

Saint John was led by Anthony Anderson, who scored 12 of his game high 24 in the 1st quarter to set the pace. Diggs had 23 in his PBL debut. Terry Martin added 18.

Rochester was outrebounded and committed 23 turnovers, resulting in the Mill Rats taking 15 more shots in the game. Points in the paint, where The Sharks try to make their living, were even 24-24.

The loss snapped a two game win streak for Rochester. The Sharks are at Quebec Sunday afternoon. Saint John snapped a two game losing streak. The Mill Rats are at Eastern Division leading Halifax next Friday.
