
Newark Bears Re-Sign Pitcher Sergio Espinosa

The Newark Bears have announced the re-signing of pitcher Sergio Espinosa to its 2013 Spring Training roster.
Espinosa (LS-4) spent the 2012 season with Newark, recording a 4.10 ERA in 26 innings of work. The hard-throwing lefty struck out 22 of the 115 batters he faced, and finished the season with a 1-0 record.
The Cuban-born reliever was signed by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2010 and played in Tampa Bay's minor league system until 2011. In three seasons as a relief pitcher, Espinosa has a career ERA of 3.92 in 170 innings pitched.
Newark also placed pitcher Greg Lane (LS-3) and outfielder Bryce Lane (LS-1) on irrevocable waivers for the purpose of giving them their unconditional release.
The 2013 Newark Bears will open up their season on May 16 at Rockland. The team's home opener will be played on Friday, May 17 at 7:05 p.m. at Bears & Eagles Riverfront Stadium.
